Meet Mike
Classroom roots.
A wider view.
My work connects classroom practice, assessment, organizational learning, and artificial intelligence.
Educator, author, and AI strategist
I’m Dr. Mike Maksimchuk, an AI Strategist with Michigan Virtual. Before that, I supported assessment work at Kent ISD and taught science and engineering in Grant and White Cloud, Michigan.
Across those roles, one question has stayed with me: how can we make evidence of learning more useful to the people who need it?
Today, my work includes professional learning, assessment design, writing, and collaboration with educators in Michigan, across the United States, and internationally.
Beyond the classroom
Outside of education, you’ll often find me at an organ console, on a ski slope, or out sailing. I’m a church organist, an avid skier, and a sailor. Music, the outdoors, and time on the water are important parts of who I am.
I also enjoy making things simply for the fun of it, whether that means coding a useful little tool or writing historical fiction. Pulling Out All the Stops is my latest creative detour. It’s a different kind of writing, and another side of me I’m glad to share.
